OUR
STORY
Glenna’s Wings is dedicated to supporting children, families, and transitional-aged youth, inspired by the legacy of its founding member, Glenna Hayes. With roots in the Lullaby Guild of the Children’s Home Society, the organization continues a proud tradition of service that began in 1950 when Laura Slayton and Emily Portwig responded to a call to find homes for 50 African American children in need of adoption and foster care. Over the years, the Guild expanded its mission, offering ongoing support to foster families, organizing community events, and addressing critical issues like teenage pregnancy through projects like the “Egg Project,” which continues to educate California schools today. As the Children’s Home Society shifted its focus, Glenna’s Wings emerged to carry on the spirit of compassion and direct service, engaging the community to ensure brighter futures for families and youth. Every project is a testament to love, commitment, and the belief that no child should be left without support. Join us in making a difference—together, we can create lasting change

Welcome to Glenna's Wings

The most precious gifts we can bestow upon our children and young people are the roots to ground them and wings so that they can soar!
